And we finally got to unwrap the best fuel hose for inside tanks. Finally! Dayco 80163.
After an internal fuel hose failure, Richard Pykett analyzed a bunch of locally available 8mm fuel hoses from various brands. Dumped them in 95 octane and let them sit for a week.
Some swelled up, some started to fall to bits.
Even some of the other Dayco submersible hoses failed.
Awkward questions were asked of the suppliers.( Along the lines of..."you know how sending manufacturing offshore was going to be good, well...)
Only one model of one brand actually resisted fuel. One. The one made in USA.
Which is exactly what you want from fuel hose that you put inside your tank.
So here it is. We have to import it, as its not available in NZ.
The old stockists had to import so much of it they simply don't.
Dear as feck, but you only want to do the job once, so do it right.
'Cos spending half an hour breathing petrol fumes while you swap out old hoses and filters doesn't do much for your enjoyment of the day.
Or your ability to remember important things.
So here it is. Next time you're swapping out a fuel filter, fire in the best Dayco in-tank fuel hose. (The only model from this brand and others one that didnt swell, turn to mush and fail).
Cheers Richard for doing the hard yards and figuring out the answer.
It's saved lots of people from catching a bus home.
